Eye surgeons 'earning $28,000 a day' for cataract surgery

Australian eye doctors are being paid twice as much for cataract surgery as doctors in the US and three times as much as their counterparts in Germany.

And an anaesthetist has told The Daily Telegraph how some opthamologists are earning $28,000 per day performing cataract surgery in public hospitals.

"I have never witnessed anything quite as disgusting as Visiting Medical Officers at public hospitals earning $28,000 for a days operating," the anaesthetist said.
