Police force doorknocking homes for Mount Isa murder clues

More than 30 police will carry on doorknocking homes in Mount Isa today seeking leads in the murder of an old man and the bashing of his wife.

An 82-year-old father, supposed to have worked for the Mount Isa City Council, was discovered lifeless by his daughter about 9am on Monday in his Pelican Road house in the northwest Queensland city.

His 71-year-old wife was found by his side with harsh head injuries and is fighting for her life in Mount Isa Base Hospital.

It is understood the daughter thought at first both parents were dead, and that her mother had been lying next to her husband's body for several days.
