A man dies after spraying fruit

A man has died in Victoria's Yarra Valley after cabling used to spray fruit crops became wrapped around his upper body.

The 47-year-old man from Lower Templestowe was exposed dead about 7.45pm (AEDT) today at an apple and cherry orchard in Hunter Road, Wandin North, where he was last seen on a tractor spraying crops earlier at 4pm.

Police said early inquiry indicate the cabling may have wrapped around the man's upper body and decapitated him.

WorkSafe is investigating the event and police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
