Real Madrid have let wounded star forward Cristiano Ronaldo travel to Portugal so that he can be assessed by his national team's doctors. The Spanish giants had seemed set to become embroiled in a row with the Portuguese Football Association after the world's most expensive player was selected in the squad for the World Cup playoffs despite their warning he should not be risked.
The 24-year-old has been sidelined since October 10, when he aggravated an ankle problem playing for Portugal in a qualifier that he had suffered on club duty the previous month.
Real do not expect him to be fit for at least another two weeks, but Portugal hope he can be ready to play in the two games against Bosnia-Herzegovina on November 14 and 18 which will determine whether the nation qualifies for the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.
