4 gone after Madeira flash floods kill 42

http://www.news-updations.blogspot.com/FUNCHAL, Madeira Islands— Rescue personnel dug throughout heaps of mud, boulders & debris on Sunday on the Portuguese island of Madeira, finding for victims buried by flash floods & mudslides that had before now killed at least 42 people in the popular tourist area.

More than 120 others were wounded & an unknown number were gone, possibly swept away or smothered, the authorities told, adding that the death toll could still rise. About 250 public were forced to flee their homes & go to shelters.

The storm was the nastiest to hit Madeira, an island in the Atlantic off northwest Africa, since 1993. It lashed the capital, Funchal, on Saturday & turned a few streets into raging fast-moving water of liquid brown dirt, water & debris.
