3 Journalists from Nigeria Killed In Weekend Violence

LAGOS, Nigeria — Gunmen shot and killed a Nigerian journalist at his home the same day 2 others died while attempting to cover fighting among Christians and Muslims in the nation's restive central highlands, authorities said Monday.

Lagos State police spokesman Frank Mba says Edo Ugbagwu, a justice reporter for the daily newspaper The Nation, died Saturday. Frank Mba says the gunmen shot the 42-year-old journalist after a confrontation at his home.

Frank Mba said Monday detectives still don't have a motive for the crime.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists also said Monday that 2 journalists for the Christian publication The Light Bearer Newspapers died during fighting in Jos. The Nigeria Union of Journalists identified the dead as deputy editor Nathan S. Dabak and a reporter Sunday Gyang Bwede.
