A 75-year-old Gilroy man remains in critical condition after he was violently attacked with a baseball bat Tuesday night in a home invasion, according to police.

Officers found the man laying on a settee with severe head injuries after responding to reports of a disturbance at a residence in the 1000 block of Montebello Drive and the man, who is not being identified by police, was still unconscious and in critical condition today at a South Bay intensive care unit.

A 46-year-old man was also attacked in the home invasion, which police are saying it was not a random act. The younger man was found laying in the kitchen area with major injuries in his legs and is now in stable condition at a trauma center, as said by police.

Police say as a minimum one attacker used a baseball bat to strike the victims multiple times and spoke in Spanish during the attack. A motive is unknown at this time, as said by police.

Detectives have been working full time in an attempt to identify the attackers, but little is known at this time about the motivation for the home invasion. Police are sure the victims were targeted in a focused and directed attack.
