A TWO-year-old boy has been hit by a car and was killed after wandering three streets from his south Brisbane home overnight.

The driver of the car, a 29-year-old man, called police at about 9.40pm (AEST) after he felt "a collision" on Venner Road in the suburb of Annerley, Nine News reported.

A passing motorist, who was a doctor, stopped to help the man administer CPR before emergency crews arrived.

The boy was rushed to Mater Children's Hospital but he died early today from massive head injuries.

Police doorknocked the surrounding streets trying to find the toddler's parents but had no success.
