Teen girl dies in alleged car race in Townsville

1 teenager is dead and 2 others injured after their vehicle collided with a semi-trailer in an alleged car race, south of Townsville.

The crash occurred at 11pm last night (AEST) on the Flinders Highway at Brookhill, 15km outside of Townsville, north Queensland.

The 15-year-old teenage girl in the back-seat died at the scene and the 17-year-old female driver suffered internal injuries while 20-year-old male front seat passenger suffered neck as well as back injuries.

Paramedics took the 2 survivors to Townsville Hospital and treated the driver of the semi-trailer for shock at the scene. Police believe the car pulled onto the highway facing the west bound truck, which braked heavily but strike the rear right side of the car.

Police will not confirm if the teenagers' car was racing another vehicle before the collision but are investigating the crash circumstances
