The United States plans to send 1,400 added Marines to Afghanistan to boost its battle forces ahead of the coil fighting period, the Wall Street Journal explanation on Thursday.
The United States, which led a 2001 attack of Afghanistan that toppled the Taliban, has about 100,000 troops in the country, and President Barack Obama is under pressure to demonstrate results so he can begin a promise removal this year.
"The Marine division could start arriving on the ground as near the beginning as mid-January. The forces would more often than not be deployed in the south, about Kandahar, where the U.S. has concerted troops over the past more than a few months." the paper said. It cited unidentified officials.
