Japanese nuclear security officials said Friday that they believe that the reactor core at one unit of the anxious Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant may have smashed, raising the opportunity of more severe contagion to the surroundings.
"It is probable that anywhere at the reactor may have been hurt," said Hidehiko Nishiyama, a spokesman for the nuclear safety society.
