Impacts of Birds Song in Human life

Protection charities and scientists are beginning a research project to discover whether birdsong has any impact on human’s mental well being. The project will involve laboratory and playing field research, and questionnaires. Initially volunteers from the general Trust and the Surrey Wildlife Trust will fill in questionnaires to find out their preferences and how they self-rate the impact of hearing birds.

There is also the problem of the symbolic associations people have with different bird sounds for example, if they associate hearing a particular species with a nice holiday. Last year, the National Trust launched a scheme heartening people to listen to birdsong for five minutes each day, as a way of combating the winter blues.
