Sale in New York: Elizabeth Taylor's jewels

A set of jewels owned by late artiste Dame Elizabeth Taylor is being auctioned at Christie's in New York. It has been expected the four-day auction will bring more than $30m. Once t he pearl, known as La Peregrina, has been painted by 17th-Century Spanish artist and depicted in artwork for centuries.



Almost 400 dresses the actress wore to premieres and movie awards will also go under the mallet as well as the 269 items of jewellery. Mounted on a diamond Cartier necklace, its advertising cost had been expected as up to $3m but the behest vastly exceeded that. A purchaser salaried $600,000 for a diamond and azure ring given to Taylor by her close friend, the late singer Michael Jackson.
