A landslide hit & derailed a train in northern Italy on Monday, killing 11 people & 30 injured, officials said.
The accident goes on near Merano, a small town close to the Austrian border nearly 300 kilometers north of Venice. With the wreckage still on the tracks, rescuers were trying to pull out bodies & find possible survivors.
The train line runs among the Adige river & mountains. Officials said in Bolzano, that the landslide was caused by an irrigation pipe that break open, sending rocks, & water down onto the nearing train at around at 9:30 a.m. The carriage was avoided by trees from plunging into the river.
