Teenager filmed himself speeding before killing grandmother in crash

AN unlicensed teenager who was driving his dad's car and videoed himself on his mobile phone just moments before he killed a 70-year-old grandmother in a high-speed crash.

The 18-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, taped a video-call to a friend of himself revving the engine while saying, "130, 140'' and taking the footage of the speedometer.

The crash, on April 30 last year, instantly claimed the life of Freda Page, of Winchelsea, Victoria.

In the County Court yesterday, the offender was jailed for a minimum of three years.

Judge Howard Mason said that the hoon's "mindless thrillseeking'' had taken the life of a much-loved wife, mother and grandmother.
