Gates says Pakistan havens still threaten Afghanistan


Militants in service out of safe refuges in Pakistan stay a major threat to Afghanistan but collaboration between NATO-led forces and the Pakistani military is rising, U.S. Defense desk Robert Gates said on Friday.

Overwhelming floods over the past month have belated Pakistan's military from going after militants in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and North Waziristan on Pakistan's absorbent northwestern border.

Afghanistan frequently blames Pakistan for allowing Islamist groups to grow there, President Hamid Karzai describing them as a great danger to Afghan security.
