Afghan flak hits Tony Abbott in the polls

Resistance Leader Tony Abbott has thanked Australia's troops in Afghanistan for their overhaul and witnessed the fierceness of their firepower, a week after blaming jetlag for stopping a previous visit.

Mr Abbott depleted 10 hours at Tarin Kowt yesterday, his spokeswoman said.

His mutual lunch with the troops toured a trade training school and was shorted by senior military personnel and Afghan cream of the crop on the situation in country.

Escorted by opposition defence science, technology and staff spokesman Stuart Robert, Defence Force vice-chief Lieutenant-General David Hurley, and Commander of Joint job Force 633, Major General John Cantwell, he also experiential a weapons demonstration by Australian and ISAF troops.

Mr Abbott thanked the troops for their overhaul.
