PIP breast implant: boss Jean-Claude Mas charged

The owner of a French breast implant creator that sparked a safety jolt has been charged with involuntary injury.Mr. Mas have been under investigation since he revealed in a police interview last year that PIP planned workers to hide the unofficial silicone when inspectors visited its factory. A lawyer on behalf of women who had been fitted with PIP implants said he welcomed the arrest of Mr. Mas.

Mr. Mas told police in an interview last year that PIP had deceived European safety inspectors for 13 years. In 2010, France banned PIP implants made with the low-grade silicone, amid fears they could rupture and leak. Women in 65 countries - mainly in Latin America and elsewhere in Europe - have received implants made by the company, which closed down in March 2010.
