Celebration of Light fireworks begin; big crowds line Vancouver beaches

Luminous bursts of red, green, colors lit up the sky over English Bay as the United States booted off the Festivity of Light fireworks on Wednesday night.

The U.S.’s presentation was a tribute to the Big Band era.

Memorable jazz tunes such as Fever, Mambo Italiano and You’re Nobody ’Til an important person Loves You had audience bobbing their heads, tapping their feet and dancing as they watched flare after flare shoot up.

Thunderous applause broke out each time a number ended. Samantha Danselzik, a young Vancourite, wasn’t crazy about the ’40s era music, but she enjoyed the fireworks display.

“I loved the colour and when they just lit up the entire sky and you could see the whole beach,” she said.
