Russia Eyes Wildfire Threat Near Nuclear Power Plant


Russian establishment say wildfires are intimidating a nuclear power plant in a region previously contaminated by the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster in Ukraine.

On least six wildfires have been place out this week in the Bryansk region - home of the Kursk nuclear power plant. Establishment have increased the number of firefighters in the area.

The urgent Situations Ministry said Wednesday specialists have not yet found any augment in radiation levels from soil already impure by radioactivity from the Chernobyl catastrophe.

Somewhere else, firefighters near Moscow have begun to flood peat bogs burning outside the city. Thick smoke and choking contamination from the bogs has blanketed the assets for days, making it dangerous to go out-of-doors.
